Bronco vs 4Runner: Creating Your Performance

Ford BroncoGiven what’s asked of the Ford Bronco and the Toyota 4Runner, performance and power are vital traits to have at your disposal. Whether off-roading or simply trying to merge onto a highway with your SUV loaded with people and belongings, the more power available, the better.

The 4Runner relies on a single engine, the trusty 4.0L V6. This engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and while power delivery is linear, it only makes 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Bronco easily surpasses these figures no matter the engine you select.

A base Bronco comes with a 2.3L EcoBoost® turbocharged 4-cylinder making 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Also available is a 2.7L EcoBoost® turbocharged V6 boasting 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. What will be most notable for certain folks is the transmission, which you can enjoy as either a 7-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic.

Bronco vs 4Runner: Open Yourself up to the World

Ford BroncoWhen venturing through a rugged trail or while taking your family to a nearby lake house, it’s often nice to open yourself up to the world around you. With the Bronco, this is simple. The hardtop roof can be removed, along with the doors, so that your entire vehicle is in unison with nature. There’s also a soft top roof option that you can select instead. The 4Runner lags behind noticeably because not only is it lacking a soft top roof, but you also can’t remove this roof at any time.

Further, the Ford Bronco can be either a 2-door or 4-door body style. So, if you have a style or practicality preference, Ford gives you more options to enjoy than Toyota. In fact, the options for the Bronco easily surpass what’s offered by the 4Runner.

Want tube doors as an accessory? These can be installed in either the 2-door or 4-door version of your Bronco. Do you prefer a different soft top than the standard one? Ford has a Mesh Bimini Top that is UV- and mildew-resistant. There are simply more ways to personalize your Bronco than what you’ll find with the 4Runner.
